ORIGAMI ACTIVITIES IN 1999

Preparation for publishing an article on origami in the magazine Pursuits

After reading a new magazine called Pursuits in July 1999, I like what the magazine is doing and decided to contact them. This magazine's subtitle is "The Pleasure of Leisure". This describes aim the magazine.

22nd August 1999 - Photography session
After some emails back and forth, a decision was made to have a photographer come to my house on 22nd August 1999. The decision was quite sudden, only about 2 days advance notice. There was no time for me to contact my other friends in advance to perhaps arrange for an alternative venue for photography and allow them to make plans to come to my house. As such only Cheng Chit was able to make it.

I had brought up my models and the photographer Sam came and selected the models to take photographs. My picture was also taken with the models I folded.  made it clear that I did not create the models myself. Only my picture was taken as Cheng Chit had not arrived, he arrived only towards the last 15 minutes or so. The photographer took pictures of some of his creations. I mentioned Francis Ow's popularity in the origami circle, showed him Francis Ow's book and folded heart models from the book but no pictures were taken. Sorry, Francis.

However when the magazine gets published, a link to my origami page will be published and Origami Activities in Singapore will be highlighted including Singapore creators.

Origami will appear in the third issue (Oct/Nov). There are other possibilities such as Christmas Origami in the fourth issue (Dec/Jan) and Origami Hearts in the fifth issue (Feb/Mar). I will be exploring these possibilities.

After the photography session, I will wait for further developments. There is always the possibility that "origami does not fit into the plans".

I have also submitted an origami article about the history of origami, origami in Singapore and how origami is being used. As expected, it was too long. You can check the draft at this link: Origami Article Draft. I will await the final edited version for the magazine Pursuits.
